Until people "get" that, there is no hope of helping people overcome addiction before they die. If it hadn't been methadone, it would have been another drug somewhere down the line....and even if he never overdosed, the things that made him HIM would have slowly been drained from his life by his addiction anyway. You can't stop addiction by ending the use of any particular drug. We have learned NOTHING from the Oxycontin epidemic....we slowed the use of Oxycontin, but did NOTHING to end addiction....so now we are seeing people die from methadone instead of oxycontin and when we drive the use of methadone down, people will start dying from heroin or fentnyl overdoses. How many people have to die or have their lives ruined before this country finally "gets" that our drug policies do nothing but ruin lives and send addicts into despair and death?
